Middle Value Hands in Texas Holdem

Of the numerous combinations that you will find in Texas Holdem among the most difficult to determine are probably middle value pairs. They are also quite difficult to play, as players are not in agreement on how to approach them. However, knowing some of the most common views and tactics will help you understand it.

As stated there is no consensus, but some of the most frequently cited are AJ, KQ unsuited, and a Ten paired unsuited with a King or a Queen. The Texas Holdem strategy would depend on the hand you are holding of course. But for example, if you are holding an AJ, your objective is to try and get the A on the board.

However, even if you do get the A on the flop, you also have to check the other cards on the table. You have improved your hand, but you have to ask yourself how the other players have done. If there are no big cards on the table, and it is uncoordinated, then you can proceed to bet on the turn.

However, if you do not improve, and the flop is full of potential threats, then consider folding.

When you are holding a QT or a J9 suited, the Texas Holdem strategy would be to try and get a pair or two pair. Again, with these semi marginal hands, you have to play the odds to have a chance to win the pot.

However, when it comes to Texas Holdem hands like A5-A2, and Q9 down to Q5, your options are very limited, and unless you are in a very, very passive table, they should be folded. The same can be said for the T8 and the 42.

These hands, as in the ones mentioned earlier, should only be played on very passive Poker tables, and if you are in the later position. Even then, it may still be risky. The best option, with these very low hands, is to discard them.

There are more hand combinations that you will probably see as being classified as being of middle value, but these are some of the most common that you will end up seeing. As a new Texas Holdem player you should make the effort to try and play them as well as you could.

You do not want to have them, obviously preferring the higher hands, but knowing how to make the most out of them will serve you well and even win some pots, whereas other less skilled and knowledgeable Texas Holdem players will throw them away.
